Cournot equilibrium as emergent behavior in a nonrenewable resource agent-based model

چکیده

In a simple agent-based model of a small oligopoly nonrenewable natural resource model, the agents, communicating solely through the market price, sometimes exhibit collusion-like behavior, sometimes Cournot-like behavior. The collusion-like behavior is shown to arise when di erences between the agents are small. Conversely, the Cournot-like behavior is shown to result from di erences in production decisions based on di erences in the agents. Close examination of the Cournot-like behavior indicates that the outcome results from a misinterpretation of market price response. This motivates investigation into how additional qualitative information about the market leads to quantitative improvements in the estimated marginal price. (JEL Q32)

Hotelling's Rule in the limit: an agent-based exploration of the model space

Hotelling's Rule is the observation that the exploitation of a nonrenewable resource can only be economically e cient if the resource owner's marginal pro t increases at the prevailing discount rate. This has been a perennial topic in the literature of resource economics since the 1970s, with some authors extending the theory and others analyzing empirical data. This paper reports on the result...

The Modeling of Dynamic Optimal Bidding in Electricity Market of Iran

Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to modeling of producers’ strategic suggestions for each electricity manufacturer in an oligopolistic structure. According to the proposed structure of the electricity market modeling; this paper uses a dynamic model based on cournot equilibrium. Due to the large volume of required information, the implementation of the model is limited to a regio...

A New Model Considering Uncertainties for Power Market

Medium-term modeling of electricity market has essential role in generation expansion planning. On the other hand, uncertainties strongly affect modeling and consequently, strategic analysis of generation firms in the medium term. Therefore, models considering these uncertainties are highly required. Among uncertain variables considered in the medium term generation planning, demand and hyd...

Policy implications from agent-based models of non-renewable resource production

Whether privately or publicly held, nonrenewable resources impact social welfare and, therefore, often come under public policy purview. Those who formulate policy typically have multiple and sometimes con icting goals. Of interest to policy-makers is the relative e ectiveness of the tools at their disposal given a nonrenewable natural resource, its ownership, and the market in which it's trade...

Noncooperative oligopoly in markets with a continuum of traders

In this paper, we study three prototypical models of noncooperative oligopoly in markets with a continuum of traders: the model of Cournot-Walras equilibrium of Codognato and Gabszewicz (1991), the model of Cournot-Nash equilibrium of Lloyd S. Shapley, and the model of Cournot-Walras equilibrium of Busetto et al. (2008). We argue that these models are all distinct and only the Shapley’s model w...
